“poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor but because we cannot satisfy the rich”
― Anonymous
Don Emerson, a former retired union member, describes it like this on the Quora site:
"A good analogy I think is the current concern about the availability of fresh water for public use. The CEO of Nestle has said that access to water is not a “right”. This is an excellent example of the intention behind “privatization” of any natural resource. Essentially, the capitalists, Nestle in this particular case, want the right to draw off as much fresh water from our natural sources, which belong to The People, the public, as they can sell. Essentially, they take a publicly held resource, claim it for themselves thus making it a scarcity in the “market”, and then bottle it and sell it back to us at an horrendous profit. ..."
Personally, I believe if humanity is to survive, we must change the paradigm from making as much money as possible to sustainability for the species: changing from 'the haves and the have nots' to 'we're all in this together'. Can/will we do it? Change is tumultuous, so things look bleak at the moment, but there are a lot of very good people working toward that change right now!
