ArtistCharon (or Caronte in Spanish) is a figure from Greek mythology who is known as the ferryman of Hades, the underworld of the dead. According to the myth, Charon would ferry the souls of the deceased across the river Styx, which separated the world of the living from the world of the dead. In order to pay for his services, the souls of the deceased were required to pay him with a coin, which was often placed in their mouth before burial. Those who could not pay the fee were doomed to wander the shores of the river Styx for eternity. Charon was often depicted as a gloomy and somber figure, and was known for his fierce and unyielding demeanor.
