ArtistZarathustra (also spelled Zoroaster) was an ancient Iranian prophet and philosopher who founded the religion of Zoroastrianism. He is believed to have lived sometime between 1500-1000 BCE, although the exact dates of his life are uncertain. Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions, with the belief in one god, Ahura Mazda, as the creator and sustainer of the universe. Zarathustra's teachings also emphasized the concepts of free will, moral responsibility, and the struggle between good and evil. Zarathustra's ideas had a profound influence on the development of Iranian and Indian thought and religion, as well as on later Western philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche, who wrote a book titled "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" in which he presented his own philosophical ideas through the voice of a character named Zarathustra.
