This portrait was painted ten years after Lady Jaen married Lord 'Nyan. By that time, their two children had left the nursery, and she continued to help manage the family's financial endeavors.
Still, she was bored with her life, so she started a residential school for girls and young women otherwise unable to access an education in the exclusive young ladies' academies and finishing schools. She would later expand this into a system of free public primary schools for girls and boys alike ; many of her residential-school graduates signed on to work as teachers in the school system, while others attended the Womens' College with Jaen paying the tuition. At first, the College refused to take the low-born young women - until Jaen and her husband made them see the error of their ways.
Lady Jaen* is a character in my fictional milieu, the Harperverse. She is married to the polymath Tho-Nyan, Lord Josen.
* Her full maiden name is Jaen-Eteshra, Lady Kreech ; upon her marriage, she will take the surname Josen-Kreech).

Prompt: A beautiful young woman with light brown hair and beautiful bright blue eyes, who is stern and solemn and clear-eyed, painted in a head-and-shoulder portrait in the style of Norman Rockwell ; she was filled with a darkness so intense, it was inevitable that some of it would spill over - she would look at you with those strangely colored eyes, and you would want to run.
