Nobody dared to speak after the ancient quill had written its first word. The endless library remained perfectly still. Thousands upon thousands of books continued facing the bridge where Mara stood, as though every story ever written had suddenly turned its attention toward her. Even the floating ladders hung motionless between the towering shelves. Then the deep bell rang again. Only once. This time its sound did not travel through the air. It flowed through the books themselves. Beneath every cover a faint golden glow slowly appeared until the entire library shimmered like a living constellation. "The First Bell," the Keeper whispered. Biblior gently closed the great volume beneath his arm. "I hoped we would never hear it." Klemmi looked around uneasily. "What happens after the First Bell?" No one answered. Instead, the silver thread emerging from Mara's crystal bottle stretched farther across the bridge. It no longer pointed toward the impossible white book. It reached deep into the endless shelves where even the golden lamps could barely reach. The tiny silver spark inside the bottle became brighter with every heartbeat. Memoris frowned thoughtfully. "It has found another memory." The Keeper slowly shook his head. "No. It has found its destination." Far beyond the bridge, tiny golden lights suddenly appeared between the distant shelves. They flickered only briefly before vanishing, only to reappear farther ahead. Ticko tilted his little clock face. "Those aren't memory lights." "No," the Keeper replied. "They are guides. The library reveals them only when someone is ready to continue the journey." Sir Fegalot carefully adjusted his black top hat before taking one cautious step forward. "I would simply like it recorded," he declared with perfect dignity, "that following mysterious glowing lights through an ancient library is considerably more sensible than flying." Linora smiled. "I thought you were becoming braver." The enchanted broom cleared his throat. "I am. I merely believe courage should always remain comfortably close to the ground." Even Biblior allowed himself a quiet smile. For a brief moment the heavy silence seemed to lighten. Then an entirely unfamiliar sound echoed through the ancient hall. A cheerful electronic notification. Everyone froze. Mara blinked. "Did anyone else hear that?" Slowly, Linora reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out her smartphone. "That can't be possible," she whispered. "The battery died days ago." Nevertheless, the screen slowly illuminated. There was no battery icon, no signal, no ordinary display. Instead, a single golden feather drifted gracefully across the black screen before dissolving into tiny sparks. The phone vibrated once. Then again. Silver letters appeared. Residual magic detected. The words faded.
