Words of advice
When a person comes
through your door
and says—
they are looking for
a bicycle
half the price
of what you
are selling
them for,
Do not
sell them
one for twice the price
and more, and tell
you don't need
to sell them
the bicycle
(what kind of
hyperbole?)
Then say they
can pay over time,
when they have a dime
or pay whatever they
can, man
if you don't mean it—
for the way I see it,
this is where the error
can bring terror
when the invoice
arrives
with the words
FULL amount
DUE,
I'm telling you
you must also
give a way to pay
when they do ask
on the day they
just happen to have
a little money,
instead of leaving
the inquiry
unanswered
which then transferred
the thought
that perhaps you
might give them
the same break
that you gave all others
when you started
this bicycle affair,
throwing in the air
that this may
be possible
for them as
well—
I will tell you
though, personally
I have thought
often of what
is due, and I
know and will still
say to you, true,
I am good
for the money,
but honey
you have to
give the time
it takes to unfold
for within our
household now
it is hard
to keep
a budget,
never mind
extra, for personally—
I don't get my hair done,
I don't do my nails
I never buy anything
full price, all is on sale,
My clothing are
a second-hand whirl,
I don't go out to restaurants
or out with the girls,
I don't go to movies
or to any favorite haunts,
I've no subscriptions,
I'm down to walks—
There is no where to
cut back, my two
luxuries come
Spring
are working
in the garden
and also cycling—
Yes,
They are my main
course that do
help relieve
the isolation
and help keep
my sanity
within the ever
rising inflation
that has brought
so many
down to their knees
so please have
patience, this is
the best I can do,
and since I lost my dog,
I am grateful to you
again, for allowing
me to bring this
bicycle home,
at least then
I can heal
as I roam
over the countryside
one way or another,
So, please don't
press me, there's
is no need to bother, for
I am GOOD for the money
unless I die, which is possible
though I do try
with cycling
and walking and more
to build myself strong
with the hopes I'll live
to a hundred years
or more,—I am
GOOD for the money,
this you can bet,
I am GOOD for the money,
and it may be paid yet
SOONER than we think.
