This image depicts a discovery uncovered in the 18th century, i.e., that the there are lifeforms created from unicellular algae that had developed cellular specialization to become multicellular creatures. These creatures were dubbed "Algal naiads," although they are nothing like real naiads. Nonetheless, they are sentient, and they do a pretty good job of mimicking sounds ; more importantly, they can transform into anything they've seen, although this gift is far from perfect.

See the spots on her face ? Allegedly, such flaws are inevitable. Wise swimmers and hikers will look for such flaws whenever they encounter anybody in or near water, particularly those acting strangely and those in unusual circumstances, e.g., beautiful women floating in the ocean, far from any shore.

However, they are nowhere near the hazard that they once were, and that might not be for the best. Here's why.

You see, such creatures were once numerous, and in fact they can develop anywhere algae are prominent. However, they only thrive in unpolluted water, so they have been mostly wiped out by Industrial Age water pollution.
