After all, we humans had always struggled to comprehend things of immense scale. Most of us get lost thinking about just how small and ineffectual we ultimately are in the vast scale of the universe. And yet there it was, utterly dwarfing the planet, bringing the horrifyingly incomprehensible depths of the universe into laser focus for the billions below. One can barely stand to imagine what those last few moments of freedom were like for those poor souls fortunate enough to find a way to avoid the true horrors that would await them had they not.
And yet they truly were the last of the fortunate. For the pounding fear that they felt in those final moments was but a drop compared to the ocean of suffering that would await those that could not avoid their ultimate fate. The bright green glow of the infernal device the beast had brought with it engulfing them as they took their last breaths.
