The first horror arrived on Tuesday when Professor Vale discovered that his reflection was aging three days faster than his body.
By Friday, the mirror contained a corpse.
Naturally, he covered it.
The second horror began beneath the floorboards. Something was reproducing there, constructing miniature human skeletons from dust, hair, and fragments of forgotten dreams.
Vale examined the specimens. Every skeleton possessed his fingerprints.
On Sunday, a small creature emerged carrying a notebook containing detailed observations of his childhood, including events he had never experienced.
The final entry described his death.
He burned the notebook.
Monday morning, the mirror was empty. Beneath the floorboards, thousands of tiny voices began discussing whether Professor Vale had ever existed.
Their conclusion was unanimous.
He had not.
At precisely noon, the house disappeared.
The vacant lot remained, along with a municipal record proving that nothing had ever been built there.
Except the basement.
And something inside was still taking notes.
