Chapter 38 – The Person Who Was Left on the Wrong Side Part 3 – The One Who Waited Before the Cottage Existed REFERENCE IMAGES FIRST: CR-01a – Mara, CR-11 – Horologia, CR-15 – The Vanished Wizard. Preserve their established appearance exactly. Cinematic realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration, horizontal 4:3. Show the Cottage and the primitive shelter that existed before it impossibly occupying THE SAME LOCATION and overlapping in one continuous room. Mara stands centrally in the foreground, gold-blond hair, forest-green tunic, dark trousers and brown boots. She holds the faded green ribbon tied around her wrist and looks toward an impossible black doorway. LEFT SIDE: the warm present-day Cottage with wooden floor, timber beams, bookshelves, fireplace and amber light. RIGHT SIDE: the same physical room gradually transforms into the ancient shelter, built from rough timber and stone and illuminated by cold silver-grey light. Include several simple bedrolls around a cold stone firepit. The transition must blend through the centre rather than look like two separate pictures. An old wooden chair exists in both realities at exactly the same position, partly warm and partly cold-grey, showing that both places occupy the same ground. Inside the black doorway stands ONE mysterious forgotten human figure in simple dark travelling clothes. The figure wears a faded green ribbon around one wrist and raises that hand slightly toward Mara. Keep the face completely hidden by shadow and soft mist. Human, mysterious and emotional, NOT frightening or monstrous. Include EXACTLY ONE Vanished Wizard in the entire image. Place him on the cold-grey shelter side, clearly visible from CR-15: long silver-grey hair, short white-grey beard, dark embroidered robe, brown boots, twisted wooden staff and glowing bottles at his belt. He looks stunned by the revelation. Horologia may stand as a small secondary character near the transition between the two realities. A shallow irregular pool of supernatural black reflective water crosses part of the floor near the doorway. Its reflection faintly suggests the grey road and the mysterious figure. Main visual focus: Mara between two versions of the same place, the black doorway and forgotten person, and the Cottage transforming into the older shelter. Natural cinematic composition, quiet supernatural tension, ancient secret revealed, realistic detailed textures, warm versus cold lighting, soft volumetric light. CRITICAL: EXACTLY ONE Mara in the present scene, EXACTLY ONE Vanished Wizard, EXACTLY ONE Horologia, and EXACTLY ONE mysterious person. No duplicate characters. No Aven, no Avelor, no extra people. No visible face on the mysterious person. No horror creatures, no modern objects. Absolutely NO titles, captions, labels, signs or readable text. Only exception: bottom-right small white full-body unicorn silhouette with “AI by Unicorngraphics”.

A sound came from above. One footstep. Then another. Slow and deliberate. Sir Fegelot tilted himself toward the ceiling. “Please tell me we are all in this room.” “We are,” Biblior said. The footsteps crossed the floor overhead and stopped directly above the black door. A moment later another hook appeared beside the first. Hanging from it was a narrow strip of faded green cloth. Mara’s ribbon pulled so hard that her arm lifted. “That is the other piece.” She reached toward it. Aven caught her hand. “Don’t.” “It belongs to the person I left.” “That may be why you must not touch it.” Mara pulled free and took the faded ribbon. Memory struck before her fingers closed. The shelter returned. Rain hammered its roof. The vanished wizard stood beside a doorway made of black stone. Aven was shouting. Mara stood opposite someone wearing the green ribbon. This time the figure almost had a face. “When it closes,” Mara said, “I will find another way.” “There is no other way.” “Then I will make one.” The figure took Mara’s hand. “Promise me something different.” The memory fractured. Mara fought to hold it. “What?” she heard herself ask. The answer came from both the memory and the black doorway in the Cottage. “When you remember me, do not open the road.” Mara dropped the ribbon. The vision vanished. Everyone stared at her. “The promise wasn’t to rescue them,” she whispered. The black door gave a deep crack. A narrow gap appeared along its edge. Darkness waited beyond it. Memoris’s letter wrote. THE PROMISE WAS NOT TO RETURN. IT WAS TO REMEMBER WHY SHE MUST NOT. Mara looked toward Aven. “Then why did the voice tell me I promised to come back?” Aven stared at the opening door. “Because one of those promises is false.” From the darkness came the familiar voice. “No, Mara.” A hand appeared in the gap. Around its wrist was the missing piece of green ribbon. “You made both.” The hand withdrew. The door remained open by less than an inch. Mara stepped toward it. “How can both promises be true?” “Because you made them at different beginnings.” Horologia looked sharply at Tiktora. The reader changed. 7 + 1 vanished. 55 — 0 — 55 returned. “Two beginnings,” she whispered. The vanished wizard approached the door. “The road existed between them.” “No,” the voice said. “I did.” The Cottage shook. The chair beside the fireplace scraped backward. The warm cup fell and shattered, but instead of tea, black water spread across the floor. Mara stared into it. A reflection appeared. Not the ceiling. A grey road beneath an empty sky. At its far end stood a single figure. “The wrong side,” Mara said. Aven knelt beside the water. “We thought it meant the far side of the road.” “It did,” the wizard replied. “Then.” Memoris frowned. “And now?” The wizard looked around the Cottage.
