The quote is from a poem by T.S. Elliot entitled "The Hollow Men" but I first encountered it in the movie "Apocalypse Now." Kurtz was reading aloud from a thick book the cover of which is obscured by shadow. This was back before the internet existed so I didn't even try to find the quote. I did mention it to my Grandmother some time though and was astounded when she told me where it originated. I was too young at the time to realize that she was far smarter than I. Thx Gma. :-)
