Jane Eyre First appearing in Charlotte Bronte’s 1847 novel Jane Eyre, her determination to rise above hardships makes her character special. Despite getting no support from her relatives, she becomes independent and works as a governess. Refusing to marry her cousin, Jane is later united with Rochester whom she loves. What made her character popular was the fact that it went against the accepted societal norms related to class and women’s rights at that time. Her character has been adapted in more than 15 movies and is memorable even today.
