Artist6. In times of climate change, eels have left the oceans to exploit new food sources. They have migrated from the ocean to mangrove estuaries into wetlands, where they navigate by trapping moisture in their gill chambers, breathing through their thick skin, and moving at night when it is cool. The move through the moist fields at night to eat terrestrial worms and slugs, amphibians, crabs, and small rodents. The eels have adapted to life on land and are invading drier pastures as a new destructive, invasive species. The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors
Eels adapt to climate change - in fact, this projection is not far from eels' current behavior and habitat: Eels do in fact go on land, and feed on slugs, worms and insects. It's a small step to imagine them foraging for more food on land and adapting to living a partly terrestrial life. Scary!
