When I saw the series of mountain passes wrapped in thick mist, I thought of Tolkien's own Misty Mountains, and how the members of the Fellowship were turned back at Redhorn Gate in The Pass of Caradhras. That big peak would certainly turn back the foot that's slow, as Led Zeppelin put it.
In my World Of Origin, these mountains are called The Olympic Mountains. Here in the pre-technological, pre-scientific reality where I now live, the mountains have many names, because there were several different tribes that lived in the area for at least part of the year, and each tribe has had several different names for the mountains and the area's distinctive features, e.g., peaks, passes, springs.
