ArtistAn opulent Roman-style palace. A large, beautiful anthropomorphic queen ant in the clothes of a Roman empress, sits on a chair surrounded by several anthropomorphic ants in Roman-style tunics. An anthropomorphic male ant in a Roman-style tunic and senatorial toga reclines on a Roman-style bed. A bowl filled with fruits sits on a wooden table in front of the bed. The anthropomorphic male ant holds some grapes above its head and eats them.
Queen Formica of Antonesia felt trapped, a prisoner in her own palace. Lord Laverno had deceived her. For years he had served first her mother and then her, claiming to be a faithful minister, doing what was right for the realm. But all this time he had been scheming, placing ants loyal to him in positions where they would be most useful. And when he was ready, he sprung his trap. It has started slowly. His opposition to minor decisions of the Queen. Always he claimed he was acting for the good of the realm. Then Queen Formica noticed that important news seemed not to reach her, or only to reach her in an altered form. When the invitation to the wedding of Queen Aphrodite Giant and King Charles Spaniel came for her, she only learned about it, because she overheard a messenger telling Lord Laverno about it. That was when she knew she needed to flee. She pretended that all she wanted was to attend the wedding. But in secret, she prepared to seek refuge in Caninia or Purrsepolis, away from Lord Laverno and his lackeys. But he saw through her ploy. He outright forbade her from attending and locked her in her chambers, under armed guards night and day. Anyone who protested was thrown in the dungeons under the palace. Now, no one dared oppose him and Queen Formica knew that the only reason she was still alive was because he wished to marry her, to legitimize his claim to power. If she refused, she felt certain that he would have no further use for her. Her only hope was to play for time. But who would rescue her? What allies does she have left? Queen Formica felt frustration and despair brewing inside her, as she was forced, once again to dine with Lord Laverno, whom she had secretly dubbed Lord Loathesome.
Lord Laverno, on the other hand, was thoroughly enjoying himself. He ate with the appetite of one who feels in control and knows that everything is going according to his plans.
