The Accused

More about The Accused

Prompt: Black-and-white vintage horror-adventure comic cover composed from an intense low, worm’s-eye viewpoint. High above the viewer, a powerfully built executioner poses on the edge of an ancient stone platform, rendered with dramatically idealized heroic proportions. Held securely around the waist in one arm is a young blonde woman -- who stands accused of witchcraft -- with shoulder-length, softly waved hair blowing in the wind. She wears a tattered black dress and her wrists are bound together, with her arms raised and extended overhead. Her eyes are wide as she and the executioner look down toward the threatening crowd below. Rendered entirely in pure black-and-white ink with dense black shadow masses, severe chiaroscuro, expressive brushwork, vigorous crosshatching, and aged printed-comic texture. Classic 1950s Golden Age adventure-horror draftsmanship, extreme forced perspective, theatrical anatomy, and a dramatic cinematic vertical arrangement. No captions, lettering, dialogue balloons, or other text.
