This portrait was painted in the year after Lady Jaen married Lord 'Nyan.
Lady Jaen* is a character in my fictional milieu, the Harperverse. She is married to the polymath Tho-Nyan, Lord Josen and she is a noted scholar in her own right, having taught in the Faculty of Letters at her alma mater. While there, she fought for recognition for women in academia, and she continued to do so after her marriage (q.v.).
* Her full maiden name is Jaen-Eteshra, Lady Kreech ; upon her marriage, she will take the surname Josen-Kreech).
