Prompt

A hyper-realistic painting depicts a large, intricately patterned snake (*Spilotes pullatus*)—banded in yellow and black—coiled upon a dark brown tree trunk within a lush, dense jungle. The snake’s head is prominently featured on the left, distinguished by black eyes and finely detailed scales. The surrounding jungle foliage is vibrant, showcasing large leaves in the foreground and a canopy in the background through which soft, ethereal sunlight filters, creating a mystical atmosphere. The scene is rendered with exquisite detail—from the snake's individual scales to the textures of the leaves and tree bark.Style by James Gurney xBruno Liljefors ,include a very small sterilized full-body white unicorn logo with delicate proportions and the text “AI by Unicorngraphics” beneath it in the bottom right corner.

German Name: Hühnerfresser Chicken-eater
Scientific Name
Spilotes pullatus
Order
Squamata (scaled reptiles)
Family
Colubridae (colubrid snakes)
Genus
Spilotes
Description
The chicken-eater is a large, slender, and extremely agile arboreal snake found in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Its striking black-and-yellow pattern serves as camouflage amidst the interplay of light and shadow in the forest. Despite its impressive size, it is non-venomous and relies on speed, strength, and excellent climbing abilities. When threatened, it raises the front part of its body, slightly inflates its neck, and can appear surprisingly aggressive.
Distribution
The species ranges from southern Mexico through Central America to Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina.
Habitat
• Tropical rainforests
• Gallery forests
• Mangrove areas
• Forest clearings
• Forest edges
• Occasionally agricultural areas
The chicken-eater frequently inhabits trees and shrubs but can also be found on the ground.
Size and Weight
• Length: 1.8–3 meters
• Maximum length: up to approximately 3.2 meters
• Weight: 1–4 kilograms
Males and females reach similar sizes.
Diet
• Birds
• Galliformes (fowl-like birds)
• Bird eggs
• Rodents
• Bats
• Lizards
• Small mammals
It earned its German name because it occasionally enters chicken coops and preys on poultry.
Behavior
The chicken-eater is diurnal and ranks among the most active snakes in the Americas. It moves skillfully through the forest canopy and can climb surprisingly fast. Unlike many constrictors, it often actively pursues its prey. When threatened, it defends itself vigorously and may bite repeatedly.
Reproduction
Females usually lay between 6 and 15 eggs in sheltered hiding places. After an incubation period of about two to three months, the young hatch fully developed and are immediately independent.
Distinctive features
• Excellent climber
• Diurnal (active during the day)
• Very fast movements
• Striking black-and-yellow warning pattern
• Can flare its neck like a cobra
• Possesses large, well-developed eyes for daytime hunting
Natural predators
• Birds of prey
• Jaguars
• Ocelots
• Large monitor lizards
• Caimans
• Humans
Young individuals, in particular, are frequently preyed upon by birds of prey.
Conservation status
Not threatened (LC – Least Concern)
The species has a wide distribution range and is currently considered stable. However, local populations may decline due to deforestation and habitat loss.
Interesting fact
Despite its fearsome name, the chicken snake poses no danger to humans as it is non-venomous. Its scientific specific name, *pullatus*, means "clothed" or "robed" and likely refers to its striking pattern. In many regions of South America, it is considered a beneficial hunter of rats and other pests.
