The legendary Black Forest Marie

Symbol of nature:
The figure can be seen as the embodiment of the Black Forest itself, symbolising its wildness, beauty and mysteries, and representing the close connection between humans and nature and their reverence for it.

Mythological origins:
Legend has it that she was a forest fairy who helped those lost in the deep woods, or the daughter of a forest ranger who was banished to the woods after a tragic event.

Local stories:
She appears in local stories to embody virtues such as solidity, loyalty and honesty.
