ASC #1 is only nominally self-aware, i.e., self-awareness adequate for it to understand and operate on Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics. These androids can synthesize speech, but they do not usually need to interact with biological species in the furtherance of their duties, so such speech is almost never used.

*ASC #1 to #5 are all android robots ; although some utilize biological components, none of the first five in this series are cyborgs, i.e., none have ever had an earlier existence as a biological lifeform.
