This portrait was painted five years after Lady Jaen married Lord 'Nyan. In that time, she bore him two children, meanwhile taking an active role in managing Lord 'Nyan's household and businesses. She also wrote a book of highly regarded verse, much of which was set to music by her husband's adoptive brother Jack Harper.
Lady Jaen* is a character in my fictional milieu, the Harperverse. She is married to the polymath Tho-Nyan, Lord Josen and she is a noted scholar in her own right, having taught in the Faculty of Letters at her alma mater. She has fought for recognition for women in academia and continues to do so.
* Her full maiden name is Jaen-Eteshra, Lady Kreech ; upon her marriage, she will take the surname Josen-Kreech).
