Prompt: A duck is born with a desire to swim. Even if it has never seen water, that desire drives it to seek water, and when it finds it, the duck instinctively knows how to swim. This desire is a kind of faith—a sign to the duck that water exists. That longing never leaves, because it’s part of who the duck is.
The same is true for those who desire to know God. This desire is deep and unquenchable, drawing us closer to Him. Once you know Him, that desire only grows, driving you to seek Him more, just as the duck’s desire for water affirms water’s reality. In this way, the desire within us points to the reality of God.
If a bird is born with no longing to swim, then it’s probably not a duck. Likewise, if you don’t feel a desire to know God, that’s okay. But if you’re curious or wish to understand, ask Him to open your heart. As Jesus said, “Seek, and you will find.”
Remember, desire is a sign of something real waiting to fulfill it. If you’re looking, know that you’re already on the path.
