climate change series: sea urchins adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, entire colonies of predatory sea urchins have left overgrazed oceans and tidal pools, where they left behind urchin barrens, in search of new food sources. They have migrated up the rocky shores to steep cliffs and beyond to rocky plains, where they have attached themselves to rocks and rubble in large swarms. The voracious sea urchins have acquired a degree of mobility now, and feed on small rodents, insects and nesting birds on the wind-swept, stony plains. The sea urchins have retained their dark purple color and have kept their dozens of extremely long, sharp, gray-white spines, protecting them from any natural enemies. The sea urchins have adapted to life on the rocky coastal and inland plains and have become a new destructive, invasive species. The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: 6. In times of climate change, eels have left the oceans to exploit new food sources. They have migrated from the ocean to mangrove estuaries into wetlands, where they navigate by trapping moisture in their gill chambers, breathing through their thick skin, and moving at night when it is cool. The move through the moist fields at night to eat terrestrial worms and slugs, amphibians, crabs, and small rodents. The eels have adapted to life on land and are invading drier pastures as a new destructive, invasive species. climate change series: sea fans adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, sea fans have adapted to terrestrial life, attaching themselves to growing on rocky outcrops reaching into the air. The sea fans have formed colonies where the air is thick with insects. The sea fans are a colonial coral with several main branches and a highly intricate latticework linking smaller branches. The soft polyps on the skeleton, which is composed of calcite and gorgonin, are brilliantly red, with older polyps fading into pink. The fans are orientated at right angles to the wind current; each sea fan grows as a single, flat, plane layer like nets directly facing wind currents, and letting air travel through the openings in the network while trapping insects and other particles that fly against the polyps. The sticky polyps on the sea fans slowly digest the food particles. The ground around the sea fans is littered with tiny particles, the residues of the digested insects’ exoskeletons. The sea fans have adapted to life on land and are invading drier ground as a new destructive, invasive species. The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.

climate change series: lobsters adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, lobsters have adapted to a terrestrial habitat. They have converted their gills into lung-like, vascularized branchiostegal lungs, allowing them to forage for small prey in a moist woodland environment. The lobsters are well protected by their carapace, whose colors blend in perfectly with the greens and browns of the forest floor. They have no natural enemies and have invaded the woodland habitat, crowding out more vulnerable small mammals. The rich food sources of the woodland have allowed the lobsters to grow to twice the size they had as ocean dwellers. The image is a close-up of several lobsters foraging. DiversitySaturday: climate change kills

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 1536 X 1024 (1.57 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, many species of animals and plants teeter on the brink of extinction. Over 14,000 species are listed as directly threatened by rising temperatures. For example, higher temperatures and earlier flowering of vegetation in spring confuse vitally important pollinators like bumblebees. Bumblebees are failing to shift along with northward creep of vegetation. Bumblebees are vulnerable to temperature extremes, so populations at the southern borders of bumblebee habitats are succumbing to higher temperatures while failing to keep up with the northward shift of vegetation. Scientists confirm that sightings of bumblebees have dropped significantly. Bumblebees are crucial “buzz pollinators” – some plants rely on these insects for fruit production. The dream shows a large, intricate cherry tomato vine with many sprays of cherry tomatoes in bloom. Where the blooms have fallen off, the unpollinated calyxes are empty. The tomato vine is surrounded by a host of ghost bumblebees – that is, imagined perfect bumblebees rendered in transparent blue buzzing around the tomato vine. The tomato vine itself is naturalistically rendered in delicate watercolor as a biological illustration with scientific precision.

climate change series: giant feather duster worms adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, feather duster worms have adapted to a terrestrial habitat. For these filter feeders to successfully colonize land, the feather duster worms have increased the sticky mucus and grooves of their tentacles to trap food particles from the air. Moreover, the mucus contains poisons to immediately paralyze insects that come into contact with the worms’ fans. The feather duster worms’ outer cuticle has hardened by increasing calcium deposits to effectively form an exoskeleton. Also, the worms have developed a vascularized skin, like their distant relatives, the earthworms, to breathe oxygen from damp air while preventing water loss. The giant feather duster worms have developed a camouflage coloring for the swampland they inhabit, with flecks of yellows, greens, and browns in their large fans that sway in the breeze to capture airborne food. The new swampland food sources and their toxic mucus to fend off predators have allowed the feather duster worms to grow to twice the size they had as ocean dwellers. The image is a close-up of several feather duster worms attached to a rotting log in the swampland, their fans fully open. The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.

climate change series: batfish adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, walking batfish have escaped the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which has poisoned their habitat and killed off their plankton food supply. The bottom-dwelling batfish have left the Gulf to become terrestrial and feed on large masses of shoreside algae slicks that form thick, dark brown blankets on beaches. The batfish have evolved to retain water subcutaneously to keep them from drying out, and have developed the ability to derive oxygen from the air though their thickened skins. Moreover, their pectoral fins have lengthened, hardened, and gained mobility, enabling the batfish to “walk” on these fins. Considering that animals first left the oceans for dry land nearly 400 million years ago, at the end of the Devonian period, this speeded-up evolution scenario is absolutely believable. The image is a close-up of several batfish scavenging among thick algae mats on shore. The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.

climate change series: octopuses adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2496 (8.27 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, octopuses have begun to go terrestrial. Already today, some species, like the Abdopus aculeatus, regularly leave the water to hunt for crabs at low tide. To spend longer times on land and tap new food sources, octopuses have started to develop a fairly thick waxy body coating that helps them retain moisture. Also, they have begun to evolve a cartilage-based internal framework that serves as a rudimentary skeleton. The protective coating and the internal scaffolding come at the cost of octopuses amazing ability to change colors in milliseconds by means of specialized skin cells called chromatophores. The chromatophores have atrophied and have been largely replaced by a very intricate green-brown camouflage pattern of octopuses’ thicker skin. The octopuses have retained full flexibility of their limbs and are able to move very nimbly and quickly to escape and hide from predators. Their new feeding grounds are grasslands, where they forage for worms, insects, frogs, salamanders, and the odd small mammal. The image shows three octopuses moving along a grassy meadow in search of food, under cover of a cloudy day, which helps prevent their skin from dessicating. The style is a biological illustration with extreme scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.

Liberation

• Model: Krea 2 Turbo

• Size: 1280 X 960 (1.23 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: Wide vertical full-body architectural photo of a monumental contemporary wall sculpture on a modern inhabited building. Show the entire woman from head to both bare feet, full angel wingspan, complete root system, and large wall area; nothing cropped. A luminous winged woman violently breaks free from a pale hand-plastered façade after years of captivity. Her body launches steeply upward toward sunrise in a powerful diagonal: chest thrust forward, spine arched, head raised into light, one arm reaching high toward the sun, the other thrown back for balance. Her torso, arms and wings surge free, while hips, thighs, calves, ankles and feet trail behind, still trapped by roots. Dynamic asymmetrical struggle, not posing or peaceful flight. Dark brown-black roots visibly emerge from a shattered hole in the wall, run continuously to her hips, legs, ankles and feet, stretched taut, twisting, snapping, unraveling and curling through the air. Cracks radiate around the opening; pale plaster chunks and dust burst backward. Clear tension: roots pull backward and downward, woman tears forward and upward. Large majestic classical angel wings, broad layered individual feathers, pale ivory, warm cream, antique champagne bronze, subtle muted sage patina in shadow. Wings caught in a powerful uneven upward beat, feather tips swept by wind. Beautiful angel wings only: not butterfly, insect, fairy, or bat wings. Three-quarter side view along the façade, moderate distant wide-angle camera, with a large visible gap between wall and body. Full silhouette clearly readable; sculpture fills about 60% of frame height, architecture visible above, below and beside it. Textured off-white wall: rough lime plaster, layered stucco, trowel marks, chalky mineral surface, cracks and shallow folds; maintained contemporary art, not ruins. Surrounding architecture: clean pale geometric volumes, large glass windows, modern city background. Bright dawn light from above and ahead: pale gold, cream, peach and soft rose. Light strikes her face, raised hand, chest, thighs and feather edges; long soft shadows of wings, full legs and roots fall across the wall. Luminous ivory limestone/plaster figure with restrained champagne-bronze detail, never dark. Realistic architectural photography, tactile materials, physically believable construction, cinematic frozen motion, explosive liberation, fierce hope, transformation toward light. Avoid: any crop or close-up; waist-up, torso-only, missing legs/feet/roots, hidden root connection, flat figure against wall, static standing, peaceful floating, symmetrical or stiff pose, horizontal flight, frontal view, no debris or root tension, dark/black/gray figure, black wings, horror, gothic or abandoned building, stormy light, glossy CGI, marble, fantasy illustration, cartoon. ```

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: Half-length portrait of an adult Caucasian woman in a vertical 4:5 composition. She has vivid hazel-green eyes, a natural complexion with warm peach undertones, and a quiet binnenpretje: her eyes sparkle with private amusement while one corner of her mouth lifts into a small, barely contained smile, as though she has just remembered an inside joke. Her shoulders are relaxed, and the expression remains subtle and genuine. Her strongly asymmetrical curly pixie cut is shorter than before: closely tapered on one side, with compact, sculptural curls sweeping across the other. The hair is vivid orange-amber, with metallic copper and gold reflections catching the light. She wears a loose, unbuttoned checked shirt in deep teal, antique gold and black over a simple dark top. Render the scene as an expressive painting, with confident brushstrokes, layered pigment, translucent washes and scraped textures. Observe her face and eyes closely while the warm, dark background dissolves into fluid, semi-abstract marks. Strong directional golden-neon light from the upper left gives the curls and fabric folds three-dimensional depth; a soft violet shadow shapes the opposite side of her face without obscuring her eyes. Add a small calligraphic signature reading “Milo” in the lower right corner.

climate change series: limpets adapt

• Model: ChatGPT 2 (Ultra)

• Size: 3312 X 2480 (8.21 MP)

• Used settings:

  • Prompt: In times of climate change, limpets are well-positioned to go terrestrial as their ocean food sources dwindle and sea levels rise. Limpets first invade the newly flooded coastal estuaries and forests. Limpets’ hard shells seal in moisture and give limpets the time over generations to develop the capacity to process air for oxygen. Terrestrial limpets have acquired the capacity to crawl slowly over decaying matter, feeding as they go. Limpets have made it to higher ground, where they slowly crawl up rocks and stones covered in lichen, a new food source for the limpets. The image is a close-up of limpets attached to higher-ground stones surrounded by grass mats and wildflowers. The stones are weathered and covered with gray-green and yellow-green lichen. The limpets have developed the colors of the lichen-covered rocks, with gray, tan, yellow, and olive green bands concentrically arranged around their keyholes, with darker and lighter rays of the same colors along radial ridges radiating from the keyholes. The limpets thus have fairly good camouflage. The new food sources, the protective carapaces, and the ability to breathe air and move along terrestrial surfaces have allowed limpets to grow to sizes topping out at 30 centimeters (12 inches). The style is a biological illustration with scientific precision, drawn as line art in bold colors.
