That's how I ended up in a place called the dry goods store. The shabby walls were a nuisance. And to my surprise, I was placed under the counter of a Soviet store. Day, night, day, night flew by as an invisible bird. I contemplated what was happening in the lobby of the store, through a crack in one of the boards that made up the wall of the counter. There over the side, the ocean of Soviet life, bright objects were moving, they were talking, they were taking, touching, and looking inside other bags and suitcases similarly standing under the counter. These were the very people we were made for. It was amazing that the people, our security guards working in the store, didn't put us on the shelves to be seen. And they hid us and only took us out for a select few to see. Once, they even got me out on the sly and showed us off.
