  • Prompt: Neo-Baroque oil painting, a dramatic allegorical scene of betrayal, envy and self-revelation. In the foreground, a sorrowful man in his forties kneels on a cold, cracked marble floor, his head bowed and one hand pressed to his chest, his face streaked with tears; a thin line of blood runs from a small wound over his heart, and his tears and blood mingle into a single, slender crimson and silver stream that winds across the marble toward the other figure. Standing above him, half turned toward the viewer, a proud figure in a sumptuous cloak of pale, pearly silk embroidered with gold, the colour of false compassion, holds before his face an elegant golden mask with a gentle, pitying smile; beneath the edge of the mask his true face is partly visible, cold and hard, lips curled in a cruel, secret laugh, his eyes glinting with fierce, gloating pleasure as he watches the kneeling man's suffering. Under the silk cloak, a dark lining of venomous green and bruised violet shows through, and a small serpent coils around his wrist, hinting at hidden spite. In his other hand, held behind his back, he clutches a bundle of sharp golden darts. Beside him, on a carved gilded stand, a large convex Baroque mirror reflects not his mask but his true self, his own chest pierced by the very same golden darts, a vision he has not yet noticed. Dramatic Caravaggesque chiaroscuro: a single warm, raking light from the upper left illuminates the kneeling man's face, the mingled stream and the gleaming mask, while the proud figure's real face sinks into deep shadow and only the mirror glows with a cold, revealing light. Behind them, a vast, shadowy Baroque interior of dark marble columns, heavy crimson and burgundy drapery and ornate gilded mouldings fading into darkness. Rich, theatrical brushwork with thick, layered impasto in the drapery, the gold and the marble, and smooth glazing on the faces, giving the painting a tactile, sculptural quality that blends Baroque opulence with a contemporary sensibility. A small, elegant calligraphic signature reading "Milo" in gold leaf in the lower right corner.
