  • Prompt: Millions of years ago, long before Earth had cooled into a cradle for life, these beings were marooned in the Oort Cloud, stranded at the farthest reaches of a young and still-forming solar system. Cut off from any hope of rescue, they endured in silence as the ages passed and the light of their civilization faded into dust. What had once been a living expedition, perhaps a voyage of discovery or colonization, became an unending vigil in the black outskirts of the system, where time itself seemed to freeze around them. As their reserves dwindled and their bodies could no longer be sustained, they turned to the vast machinery that surrounded and supported them. The golden helmets upon their heads were not merely symbols of rank or ceremony, but interfaces—ornate conduits designed to preserve consciousness beyond the collapse of the flesh. Through thousands of fine fibers, extending from the helmets into the intricate machinery behind them, their minds were slowly and deliberately decanted from organic form into electronic architecture. What began as a desperate survival measure became a final transformation: memory, identity, and thought were translated into a machine substrate, leaving only the desiccated remains behind. In this light, the corpses are not merely dead bodies but the abandoned husks of a civilization that refused extinction until the very end. The golden masks cling to their faces like funerary relics, while the machinery behind them stands as both tomb and vessel. Their story is one of endurance, adaptation, and tragic surrender—a people who sought to outlast oblivion, only to become part of the cold infrastructure of the void
