Drying in the Sun.
Our ginger-haired girl has returned to her little place beneath the olive tree, leaving the sea behind her. She sits barefoot on the woven mat with a light towel wrapped loosely around her shoulders, her wet ginger hair falling naturally down her back. Tiny drops of seawater still glisten across her skin as the warm Mediterranean sun slowly dries her.
Her deep copper-red dachshund, with his recognizable long body and slightly tousled coat, has already claimed the softest part of the towel. He lies curled beside her, facing the sea like a tiny guardian, his dark eyes following every movement along the shoreline.
She smiles at him, gently nudging him with her foot before leaning back against her beach bag and closing her eyes. For a moment, there is nothing to do.
The open parasol throws a soft patch of shade across the woven mat. Her light summer dress lies nearby where she left it before swimming. The old olive branches move gently above her, breaking the sunlight into shifting fragments across the sand. The sprig of lavender remains tucked into the handle of her bag.
