Traditional knowledge is the set of information from indigenous peoples and traditional communities acquired through their experience with nature, as well as through the observation and experimentation of procedures and outcomes. For example, it includes the ability to differentiate between plants that serve as food, those that heal illnesses, and those that can numb hunting or fishing without spoiling the food. Such knowledge stems from the need for adaptation to the environment in which they live, the wisdom of their ancestors, and the exchange of knowledge with other peoples and communities. These knowledge systems are an integral part of their way of life and their daily routine, even if only one person in the community possesses them.
