Prompt

A young Abraham Lincoln sees his reflection in the a lake as he pears over a dockside. The water is still and the moonlight illuminates the night well. He seems to have a curious look about him. A brilliant night sky reflects a vivid milky-way behind him. As if he is both trepidatious and confident. Unity 3d, color saturated, oil paint, glow of dark gold appears to subtly punctuate his silhouette.

Renewal of Liberty for All

How could one celebrate their love of country when so much has gone awry?
What's there to be proud of when your rights depend on the size of your wallet?

Representation goes to the highest bidder. They auction our liberty, then call us winners.
Free to speak well of a pitiful king. Should you cross the man at the top, you're carried off.

What is there to celebrate?

Many things...

Goodwill. Despite all these efforts, little has been lost to the putrid shills.
We found that community is still intact. The line holds, and we should all be thankful for that.

Yet the work will never end. A labor of love is only understood one step at a time.
Could we look after one another when seeds of fear are cast upon her soil?

Should we look to one another as sisters and brothers, or allow the simple to decide who is loyal?
Sure, they pile up vast wealth. They conquer through dissonance and allow tyranny to dwell.
Short-sighted men play as though they have vision. Their paranoia consumes their passions.
Still we stand for the promise our founders agreed upon, however imperfect it may be.

Could we allow a clown who spoke of snakes to be the end of this grand experiment?
Shall we allow the ignorant to walk about as though they hold our destiny in their hands?
Let them light their wealth ablaze. Allow them to raze their own army, the price of ignorance.
We need not pay their debts with our sons, our daughters, our families, or our blood.

Let us renew our Declaration of Independence on this day.

They may play tricks. They may call polling locations with false threats.
They may manipulate who is allowed to vote while calling it secure.
All the while, men of great wealth spread corruption upon our shores.
Politicians are bought and sold, told to hide what makes us whole.

Let us stand for compassion. Shall we honor the truth?

How can there be checks and balances
when what you say is not what you do?

Tell me again how my propaganda is better than yours...

A little boy wearing a savior's clothes.

Each day, accountability moves closer, as desperation is written upon their brows.
They act as if we bought the lie. They pretend fear of a stranger is love for your brother.

Their hubris knows no bounds.

If there is no truth, perhaps they believe they are free to steal from our common good, our commonwealth.

Their ignorance knows no bounds.

Shall we answer with ire?
Or rather, shall we answer with love for the least among us?
Those branded enemies of the state for the crime of seeking a better life.
Shall we demand accountability and the disgorgement of stolen wealth?

Liberty is not preserved by changing who holds the whip, but by refusing to raise it.

May love of country mean standing in service, not to one man, but to that which binds our destiny.

May we be great in our forgiveness.
May the world witness a renewal of our great land of plenty.
