The reference is, of course, to "Puff, the Magic Dragon." And for those of you who may have difficulty remembering 1962, that's when the song was recorded by folksingers Peter, Paul, and Mary. In the song, which started out as a poem by Peter Yarrow's college roommate, Puff was a friendly dragon and had a playmate named Jackie Paper; and Puff was incredibly sad when Jackie grew up and didn't come to play any more ("A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys"). Of course in 1963 there arose quite a brouhaha over a song about a 'dragon' and a boy named 'paper' and so on. In any event, the song sold rather well.
