In Farsi, there are four different words for friendship. They don’t describe levels like “kind of friends” or “besties forever,” but rather types of closeness — each with its own depth:
Doost (دوست) is someone you knows you.
Yaar (یار) stays when others quietly walk away.
Rafigh (رفیق) shares a struggle, a belief, a direction.
Hamrah (همراه) walks with you — especially when the road gets rough.
In a misty forest, two whimsical gnomes wander along a luminous path. One, with a long beard and red hat, gazes thoughtfully, while the other retreats into the soft light of the trees.
