Oh, the Mississippi River, mighty and wide,
A majestic waterway that stretches with pride,
Its waters flow freely, a ribbon of blue,
Through the heart of America, it journeys anew.
From its source up in Minnesota's north,
It winds and meanders, flowing back and forth,
Through fertile plains and bustling towns,
Carrying barges, ships, and boats of all crowns.
Its banks are lined with cypress and oak,
Providing shelter to many a feathered folk,
From the graceful heron to the bald eagle's nest,
A treasure trove of wildlife, truly the best.
Its currents are strong, its rapids a thrill,
A playground for adventurers with daring will,
Rafters and kayakers ride the waves,
While anglers cast lines for the fish it craves.
Mark Twain once sailed on its waters wide,
Spinning tales of Tom and Huck with pride,
A river of stories, of lore and of lore,
A muse for poets, forever to explore.
So, here's to the Mississippi, a natural wonder,
A lifeline for communities, a heart that beats thunder,
With its beauty and power, a symbol so grand,
The backbone of a nation, forever to stand.
