More about Reflections of a Mother's Love

As a child, I found it very difficult to truly know my mum. I longed for her love and attention, just a moment, a word, or a hug. I would have melted for the feeling of being cradled in the arms of love, care and maternal safety. Her motto was, "Children should be seen and not heard." Having been abandoned herself and never knowing a happy childhood, she had no idea how to communicate or share physical and emotional love. She couldn’t find the words to encourage or express pride in her children, though this was no fault of her own.

Even now, I still yearn for her words of love and acceptance. But it’s too late, she passed away 20 years ago, leaving me with an emptiness and longing that hasn’t faded. As I grew older, I found myself struggling to show love, even though I craved it so desperately. It has taken me a lifetime, but I have finally learned to give and receive love. My Daughter has given me what I craved so badly as a child unconditional love, she is my physical and emotional love of my life.

A surreal, black-and-white scene featuring a woman gazing into a shattered mirror, revealing a fragmented face amidst a landscape of broken glass, evoking themes of reflection and identity.
