Chapter 27 – The Road That Knocked Back Part 3 – The Thirteenth Knock USE ONLY TWO REFERENCE IMAGES: CR-M1 – Morksik and CR-M4 – Hopsy. CRITICAL: EXACTLY TWO detailed main characters. Copy BOTH directly from their reference images. MORKSIK: Copy CR-M1 exactly. Morksik MUST be clearly visible as a major foreground character. Do not replace him with Borstel or any other character. HOPSY: Copy CR-M4 exactly. Hopsy is an unmistakable KANGAROO, not a rabbit or hare. Preserve his long powerful hind legs, large kangaroo feet, long thick tail, upright kangaroo body and established large leather pouch with accessories. Create a dramatic 4:3 realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration. Morksik and Hopsy stand together on an ancient elevated stone road surrounded by deep silver-grey mist. They have stopped at a large broken opening in the road. Through this opening they can see an impossible SECOND COBBLESTONE ROAD several metres BELOW, running in the opposite direction beneath their own road. On the lower road stand TWELVE dark anonymous traveller silhouettes, fading into the mist. They wear indistinct travelling coats. Their faces remain hidden. One nearest figure raises a hand toward the underside of the upper road as though it has just knocked from below. Morksik stands prominently on the LEFT side of the opening, cautiously leaning forward and looking down at the mysterious figures. Hopsy stands prominently on the RIGHT, clearly a kangaroo, his long tail visible behind him as he looks down into the opening. Between Morksik and Hopsy, close to the broken edge, stand TWO old brass lanterns: one glowing warm golden-yellow and the other glowing cold white. Their pools of light almost meet. Several stones of the upper road contain subtle carved symbols of circles divided into two halves. Make the architecture spectacular and mysterious: the upper road crosses the image diagonally while the second road can clearly be seen far below through a deep vertical gulf of luminous mist. Moss hangs from broken stones and ancient tree roots reach into the void. Realistic painterly fantasy storybook style, cinematic depth, wet stones, soft volumetric fog, mysterious silver atmosphere, warm gold contrasting with cold white light. ONLY MORKSIK AND HOPSY ABOVE. EXACTLY ONE MORKSIK. EXACTLY ONE HOPSY. NO BORSTEL. NO GRIMMELDORN. NO ARCHIVARA. NO ELDREN. NO extra detailed heroes. Lower travellers are silhouettes only. NO readable text. Bottom-right: small white full-body unicorn watermark with “AI by Unicorngraphics”.

Chapter 27 – The Road That Knocked Back Part 3 – The Thirteenth Knock
The thirteenth knock did not fade. It travelled beneath the stones, passed under Morksik’s boots and continued along the quiet road. Every stone it crossed gave a tiny shudder. Hopsy scrambled after his lantern, but Morksik caught his arm. “Wait.” The two lanterns lay near the blank gap, their flames touching without mixing. One burned white inside Hopsy’s brass lantern. The other burned gold in the stranger’s. “Something is listening,” Grimmeldorn said. Borstel stared at the ground. “Then perhaps we should stop knocking.” A second thirteenth knock came from beneath them. Archivara opened the book. The pages fluttered wildly before stopping on a blank sheet. Letters appeared slowly: THE TWELFTH NEVER CROSSED. Morksik frowned. “Then what knocked thirteen times?” More words followed. THE THIRTEENTH WAS NEVER A TRAVELLER. Hopsy groaned. “We have heard that before.” “The tenth was a witness,” Eldren said. “What is the thirteenth?” The book remained blank beneath the sentence. The stranger stepped toward its fallen lantern. Grimmeldorn blocked the way. “Do you know?” The tired face tightened. “I remember a warning.” “Useful?” Borstel asked. “No.” “At least our warnings are consistent.” The stranger looked at the divided circle carved into the stones. “There were two lanterns because there were two sides. The one who remained beyond the door carried one. The other stayed here.” Hopsy looked at his lantern. “Then how did I get this?” “You did not.” The stranger pointed toward Nebelmoor. “It found you.” The white flame trembled. Hopsy immediately released the handle. “I preferred it when my possessions merely behaved strangely.” Eldren knelt and unfolded his map. The two silver lines had stopped moving. Between them remained the blank gap, but a tiny black point now appeared at its centre. “That was not there before.” The point widened into a circle. Archivara’s book snapped shut. Grimmeldorn stepped backward. “Move.” The stones beneath the lanterns split. No hole opened below them. Instead they saw another road beneath the road, running in the opposite direction. On it stood twelve dark figures. None moved. None carried a lantern. Morksik counted them twice. “Twelve.” Borstel leaned cautiously over his shoulder. “Please do not ask them anything.” The nearest figure lifted its head. It had no face. Then the second lifted its head. Then the third. One after another, all twelve looked upward. Hopsy whispered, “They are not travellers.” The stranger shook their head. “No. They are roads that learned who walked them.” The first figure raised one hand and knocked against the underside of the stone.
