Based on a quick character sketch I did years ago, a sort of modern mage if I remember correctly, in the 'tradition' of Harry Dresden I guess. I'd had this idea that he'd have these glasses with the lenses taped over using paper masking tape or something, like a make-shift blindfold (kind of silly when you think how many easier options there are, but I thought it a cool idea) which would enable him to better focus some kind of second sight or the like. For some reason the name Gilbert Mallard came to me, and a name like that is going to give a guy a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
