I found a mount while metal detecting, reported it to the local museum and it’s described in detail on the find’s website. Used that as the prompt: A copper-alloy mount, probably dating to the Medieval - Post-Medieval period. The mount is rectangular, with a narrow border of even width all around a sunken central square panel which is decorated with a fantastical beast, perhaps a griffin; in profile left, with a lion's body and tail, possible wings and an eagle's head. The mount is very bent and corroded, making details difficult to see. At each corner of the long side of the mount behind the griffin is a hole, presumably a fitting, 3.1mm in diameter.
