Pixies and sirens whirled about with the wolves, dancing on a floor showered with stardust. A feast was set out in honor of the festival, and many a meat was offered for consumption. Four sisters sat in four thrones, each wearing a crown representative of their race. There was Veyga, the pixie queen, with glittering stars in her tiara. An beside her, her long tail in the water, was Serephina. She wore her seashells. In the second throne sat Merial the wood nymph, a wreath of leaves and flowers in her hair, her evil cackle joining in the music whenever she felt it was needed. And last of all sat the siren queen, the most powerful of all, Lorrelai herself. She was queen of the four sisters, and none dared look her in the eye. Her long golden hair reached to her feet, and her eyes shone like stars. A song was about her that Imelda felt she had heard before, long ago in a dream. And faraway in the distance, the light of the glen reflected off a large lake, the lake of the Wolfin Glen. There, beyond the place where fairies dance, sat their destination, in the cold, dark night. The two friends hid in the bushes and watched the dances unfold. Not wanting any to catch them, Imelda wove together a song of protection, hoping to deceive the sisters into thinking that she was one of them. Turning to the preacher, she smiled. “We’re singing with sirens tonight, Uncle Wayman.”
