Chapter 28 – The Place the First Journey Never Reached Part 2 – The Memory That Chose the Wrong Road USE ONLY THREE REFERENCE IMAGES: CR-M1 – Morksik, CR-M2 – Borstel, CR-M4 – Hopsy. Copy all three characters directly from their references. Do not redesign, replace or duplicate them. MORKSIK: match CR-M1 exactly. BORSTEL: match CR-M2 exactly as the established clothed upright anthropomorphic character with his clothing and equipment. Never depict him as a generic natural hedgehog. HOPSY: match CR-M4 exactly. Hopsy is unmistakably a KANGAROO, with powerful hind legs, large kangaroo feet, long thick tail, upright body, large leather pouch and established accessories. Never rabbit or hare. Create a dramatic 4:3 realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration. Morksik, Borstel and Hopsy have moved beyond the ancient arch and reached a strange fork in the mist-covered stone road. The road divides sharply into TWO paths around a small circular island of ancient stones. The LEFT road is old, broken and almost swallowed by silver mist. Faint translucent footprints glow upon its wet stones, but they point BACKWARD toward the companions, as though someone once travelled this road in the opposite direction. The RIGHT road looks more complete but disappears unnaturally into dense white fog. At the centre of the fork stands a low weathered stone marker with a circular symbol divided into two halves. No readable writing. Morksik kneels beside the marker and touches one of the glowing footprints, visibly realizing something important. Borstel stands behind him holding his wooden staff, watching the impossible tracks with concern. Hopsy stands on the other side with his brass lantern. Its flame has changed from gold to pale silver-white and bends strongly toward the LEFT road although there is no wind. His long kangaroo tail and characteristic body proportions must be clearly visible. Far down the LEFT road, barely visible through the mist, show ONE solitary traveller silhouette carrying another tiny white lantern. The figure is walking AWAY from the companions while its glowing footprints strangely point toward them. Far down the RIGHT road, show TWO tall grey-coated hooded silhouettes, almost completely hidden by fog. They remain distant and threatening but not horrific. Make the road fork the visual focus. Ancient wet cobblestones, moss, twisted roots, enormous dark trees fading upward into fog, pale footprints reflecting on wet stones, deep atmospheric perspective. Silver-white lantern illumination mixed with muted cold forest light. The scene should feel like the companions have discovered that someone travelled the same road in the wrong direction long ago. CRITICAL: exactly THREE detailed foreground heroes: Morksik, Borstel, Hopsy. ONE of each. Borstel must match CR-M2, not a generic hedgehog. Hopsy must be a kangaroo. ONE distant traveller on LEFT road. TWO distant grey-coated figures on RIGHT road. NO duplicate heroes. NO extra foreground characters. NO readable text. Bottom-right: small white full-body unicorn watermark with “AI by Unicorngraphics”.

“Only one of you remembers why you came.” The voice faded, but neither group moved. Morksik’s hand remained inches from the blackened brass bell. Across the arch, his double held the same position. Borstel looked from one Morksik to the other. “Well?” “Well what?” Morksik asked. “Remember something.” “Excellent suggestion.” Hopsy lowered his silver lantern. “Perhaps it means one of all twelve of us.” “Thirteen,” Eldren said, glancing toward the stranger. “They said one of you,” the stranger replied. “I am not part of your journey.” Archivara opened her book. Nothing appeared. Across the arch, the other Archivara did the same. “The books do not know,” she said. Grimmeldorn watched the grey-coated figures. They had stopped advancing, but borrowed faces still shifted beneath their hoods. Morksik looked through the arch. “Why did the first travellers come here?” The brass bell trembled without ringing. Eldren’s map folded itself into a narrow strip. One word appeared: REMEMBER. Then Hopsy’s pouch knocked. Not the lantern. Not the wooden cup. Something deeper inside. Hopsy froze. “I did not pack anything that knocks.” He began removing objects: a spoon, compass, blue feather, umbrella, teapot and two biscuits. Finally his paw emerged holding a small flat stone. A circle divided in two was carved into it. “I have never seen this.” Across the arch, the other Hopsy reached into his pouch and produced an identical stone. Both knocked once. Archivara’s book wrote: THE REASON WAS DIVIDED WITH THE ROAD. “So neither side remembers all of it,” Eldren said. “Then the voice lied,” Borstel replied. Grimmeldorn shook his head. “It said only one remembers why. It did not say one person.” Morksik understood. “One journey.” His double nodded. “Both halves together.” The grey-coated figures moved again. The nearest reached for the other Hopsy. Pale Grimmeldorn struck its arm aside. Borrowed faces beneath the hood whispered together. “Ring it. Ring it. Ring it.” Borstel covered his ears. “That answers one question.” Morksik withdrew his hand from the bell. His double did the same. The whispering stopped. Archivara pointed to the stones. “Bring them together.” The two Hopsys approached the arch. Their silver lanterns brightened. They stretched out their paws until the stones were almost touching. The arch flashed. Both Hopsys vanished, then reappeared in the same places. Hopsy blinked. “I saw something.” His double nodded. “Before the first journey.” They spoke alternately. “There were no travellers yet.” “Only the road.” “And the destination.” “Someone built the arch.” “They put the bell inside.” “Then sent the first travellers to ring it.” Morksik frowned. “Why?” Both Hopsys stared at the bell. “To prove the road could remember them.” The stranger dropped their lantern. “No.” Grimmeldorn turned. “You remember.” “The warning.
