Extreme heat is happening all across the northern hemisphere this summer. Several years ago I came across the idea that 'every disaster movie begins with scientists being ignored'. It was meant as humorous satire then. Yet right now, the United States—with its insatiable, blind appetite for resources and its magical thinking—is not only ignoring scientists and expert analysis across the board, but we are also shutting them out of any effective part of governance. It is appalling.
