In my mom's final years, her long-term memories were far more vivid than her present day. She was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and lived all over the south after she married. But at 97 she told me all about a train trip she took to NYC when she was in her late teens, traveling with her two slightly older cousins, and what a grand time they had in the big city.
