Since the Industrial Revolution (which began in the late eighteenth century), it has been very common for air pollution to spread over large distances and affect the environment. However, more and more studies show that human-induced air pollution also occurred before the Industrial Revolution. A question that concerns researchers is whether this air pollution should be taken into account when looking at the influence that people have on the environment.
