The origins of Kujula Kadphises are rather obscure. He is typically believed to be a descendant of the Kushan ruler Heraios, or possibly the same person. Kujula’s name (Κοζουλου on some of his “Hermaeus” coins and Κοζολα on his “Augustus” coins) is shared with some of the last Indo-Scythian rulers, such as Liaka Kusulaka (Λιακα Κοζουλο in Greek) and his son Patika Kusulaka, suggesting a potential family connection.
