Ever since picking hornworms off of tobacco plants, I have understood that I have, in some ways, a bird's brain. Hornworm caterpillars have overall green bodies, but they have a defensive small red pointed shape that looks like a very sharp thorn sticking up from the end of their bodies. When disturbed by a big hand plucking them off the leaf, the hornworm's entire body arcs back as if to strike the hand with that thorn. Now, my big brain knows that the 'thorn' is simply an illusion, and it is just as soft as the rest of the caterpillar, but unless I concentrate, I will drop the caterpillar every single time. See? A bird's brain.
