Under the Linden Songtext

Stanza 1:
Under the linden,
on the heath,
where our bed was,
there you may find
lovely flowers
broken and grass.
By the forest in a valley,
tandaradei,
the nightingale sang beautifully.

Stanza 2:
I came walking
to the meadow:
there was my beloved already there.
I was received
as a noble lady,
so that I am forever blessed.
Did he kiss me? A thousand times,
tandaradei,
see how red my mouth is.

Stanza 3:
He had made
a bed of flowers,
so rich and fine.
There still laughs
whoever passes by
that path.
By the roses well one may,
tandaradei,
see where my head lay.

Stanza 4:
If anyone knew
that he was with me,
(it would be a shame!) God forbid,
I would be ashamed.
What we did together,
I will never tell;
no one shall ever know but him and me
and a little bird,
tandaradei,
that will keep it secret.
