In my reading about bad luck omens, I learned that it is important to not leave chopsticks sticking up out of your rice. It reminds people of funeral practices and it is supposed to bring bad luck.
From what I read, when you offer food to the dead in Japan, you offer a bowl of rice with the chopsticks stuck in straight up. This funeral practice is about the chopsticks being the bridge (hashi in Japanese) that connects the worlds of the living and the dead. One end of the chopsticks (the living side) is buried in food, which is meant to deliver the food to the dead.
In China and anywhere predominantly Buddhist, it would resemble and symbolize the incense pot offered to the deceased at memorials and funeral practices, and is therefore shocking at best and offensive at worst.
This dream began as an AIVision version of a young Madam Mayhem, and included more omens. But I preferred this evolution with ArtFusion centering on the one particular omen that I found so interesting and providing a more realistic young mischief maker. What do you think, will she put those chopsticks into the rice now that she knows you are watching?
