More about The Cardinal’s Lullaby

Late afternoon, when the sky turned soft purple and gold, he noticed a single cardinal perched on a branch outside his window. Small snow flakes dotted its feathers, yet the bird wore them like jewels. The glow around it was uncanny, as if each brushstroke of autumn color had been carefully chosen just for that moment.

He pushed aside the old lace curtain, feeling the hush in the air—like nature itself was holding its breath. He could almost hear the gentle flutter of wet wings, the tap of snow droplets trickling down the bark. It reminded him of a forgotten melody, one he once heard on a different day in a distant memory. The cardinal turned its head, bright eyes reflecting a faint light he couldn’t quite name.

A swirl of wind made the leaves tremble in painterly shapes, reds and oranges blurring at the edges, as though someone had dipped them in water to let the colors bleed. In that instant, the world grew softer, more fluid, and he felt time pause—like the bird, the branch, and his own quiet heart were all connected by a single invisible thread.

He stepped outside, snow pattering gently on his coat. The cardinal didn’t fly away, but rather regarded him with calm curiosity. In that motionless space, man and bird simply existed—no fear, no words, only the hush of an autumn day suspended in watercolor light. And then, with a small tilt of its head, the cardinal spread its wings and glided into the softly dripping leaves, disappearing into the far reaches of a dreamlike horizon.

Somewhere, a quiet voice within him whispered: Even the smallest moments can echo like an unspoken lullaby, carrying us to places we never knew we needed to find.
