Poem by Valley Flower
Oh will you tell me, Sir, she asked
I've hunted all the day
and have not found a single one
and now I've lost my way
I want to find a little elf,
I've looked both high and low
but I can't see a sign of one
So pray, Sir
Do you know
where I can find one fast asleep
and would you kindly tell,
They're not in the primrose buds
or in the lily's bell,
I've looked within the buttercup
and in the daisies white
for they must be here somewhere
I'm sure they danced last night
I've looked beneath the spider's web
that dot the meadow green
for I have heard
they are the tents
made for the fairy queen,
So would you please kindly tell
where I'll find the elfin band
for I have grown so very tired
in search of
fairy land.
FAERIES AND MUSHROOMS
MUSHROOMS AND FAERIES
WHAT’S THE CONNECTION?
WELL, WHEN THE POEM MENTIONS…
Treasure Seeking…
It makes me think of
MUSHROOM HUNTING
which
many people enjoy,
not only for the
time spent within nature,
but
the seeking and finding
of
treasured
delicious, nutritious
and also
medicinal mushrooms.
Some mushrooms are
so prized
they can be as
expensive
as the
finest
bottle of wine.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
prize capturing their
unique shapes,
from beautiful to ugly
and their seemingly
complete
other-world-liness.
keeping the thought
of
MUSHROOM HUNTING
in MIND,
Did you know that
fungi
are the
second largest
group of organisms
(after insects), with a
count of
up to
5.1 million species?
That’s 6 times more species than plants!
And yet
it is so rare
we actually SEE
a grown mushroom
pop up around us! Incredible!
They are very elusive
as far as the
'flowering' fruit goes,
but underneath almost
any rock or piece of wood
that has been undisturbed
for a decent length of time,
it is highly possible
you WILL see
mycelium,
which is the
MAIN PART
of the
life cycle
of a
mushroom.
