The storm was still going strong when Arani and Kahle stepped out of the hole and peered of the top of the knoll. There, they saw Shaiya standing with her arms lifted in front of her, and the veins of her hands seemed to be lit up with an eerie yellow light. Her hair was blown up in the wind and whipped at her face, which looked very pale. But astonished Arani and Kahle most was that, as their friend was doing this, the storm was beginning to die down, the snowing slowed nearly to a halt, the skies cleared so that the moon shone down directly upon them, the wind became less brisk and icy, and even more intersting was that the snow immediately around Shaiya's feet appeared to be melting. In the next instant, as a beam of moonlight directly struck her, the luminescent veins flowing through her hands faded, and she began to look very weak, as if drained of all energy. Arani and Kahle knew she was about to collapse so they scrambled to the top of the knoll and caught her just as she was about to faint.
They brought her back into the hole and Arani sat down and used her body to support the other girl, while Kahle grabbed a handful of snow, sprinkling it all over her body and head in an effort to revive her.
It worked, and in a few minutes she was nearly her old self.
"What was that?!" demanded Arani.
Shaiya did not answer immediately but sat twisting and staring at her hands in wonder, as if looking for the answer to that question herself.
"I-I don't know," she began. "I just knew I could, so I did."
"Wherever did you aquire such powers?" Arani now asked.
"I think it must have been the Queen," she said, now staring out of the burrow opening.
"I wonder what else you can do!" said Kahle.
Suddenly, Shaiya burst into tears, hiding her face in her hands and was inconsoleable for a long time.
