1910’s Main Street buildings, one of the buildings has a sign with this exact phrase on it “BINGA STATE BANK” to identify the building, a smiling 30 yr old Black businessman, dressed in formal business garments from 1910 era, man is standing in with pride on his face, a large key in his hand shows he is the owner of the bank. Jesse Binga was born in 1865. He arrived in Chicago at age 22 with $10 in his pocket. Within ten years, he bought a building from a bank which folded. He opened the first Black-owned bank in Chicago. He died a billionaire in 1950. An American Success story!
