Play and Pain
From times of old to this now day
we ask ourselves in vain:
does poetry begin in play
or does it start in pain?
Heracli- and Democritus
stare wild at poetry
but offer no response to this
eternal query.
Poem and image by Philip Nikolayev
NB: Heraclitus and Democritus are traditionally represented as the Weeping Philosopher and the Laughting Philosopher, respectively.
